Hi subscriber,

Are you finding yourself annoyed by the amount of stuff out there? LLM stuff, social media stuff, commercial stuff, personal stuff, the stuff that grows exponentially as your brain turns into spam? Whilst we can't promise you won't classify this as such, we would like to hope that as far as spam goes this newsletter might at least be as digestible as the real life tinned stuff, and at most we wanted to grace your inbox with a sprinkling of human touch, to remind everyone of the people behind The Glitch and the projects that bring us together.
a word (or several) from Syzmon
Having returned from the trenches of the entertainment industry after several months, I am happily re-immersing myself in our Hackney Wick offices. Over the next few weeks we will have an upgraded colour grading suite, better system for our DIY cinema room and updated website. Over the next few months I will be working towards the sisyphean task of transforming The Glitch into the semi-functional production company it was born to be, or whatever that might mean in the context of what we’re trying to do.
Question: do you know what we are doing? Have you had ideas of a business nature? Make sure to let us know as we are desperate try and figure out how to navigate the unfriendly waters of post-scarcity capitalism. Whether it’s to do with renting equipment, making and selling zines or photo books, getting funding from cultural institutions, getting films and games financed, organising workshops or developing a counter culture statement that also somehow ends up being financially rewarding despite of its’ initial promise to destroy the system - we’re open to it!
gloup soup incubator
The gloup soup incubator was started by Joe Starrs to enable no-strings-attached creativity, where lack of a budget and a super fast turnaround enable us to go beyond fear of failure and just make things. We start with a workshop to come up with the various ideas, and reconvene a couple of weeks later to screen the films.
Yeah, our last project screened at The Glitch office on the 12th October, and was so full we had to screen it twice. The theme for this volume was Exquisite Corpse, which was composed of 10 segments all around 2 minutes long directed by 10 different directors - each had a starting frame that was the previous director’s last frame of their film. This meant no one knew what the overall film would look like as they were making it, only their own section of the ‘corpse’ - like those monstrous drawings we did at school. This is hard to describe, but the outcome included incredible work from - Joe Starrs, Gareth Rowntree, Chris Dias, Jazz Alonso, Roz Mather, Marth Cowie, Sophie-Dominique Parea, Szymon Wyrzykowski, Stanley Blundell, Léa Brunet-Wong, and Gabriel Greenough - and featured a man choke to death on his commitment, the graphic laying of eggs, saucy freedom, toast induced paranoia and a perfume sadist. It’s hard to explain so it’s probably best you just watch the thing for yourself (and stay for the credits if you want to understand better how this whole wild west thing worked).
Our next incubator workshop will take place at The Glitch office on the 25th of October - if you’d like to come and join us please reach out and we’ll get back to you with more details. The deadline will be around the 9th of November, with a screening to take place around that date (TBC).

We’d like to give a shout to Good View games’ Stefan Senior and Daniel Tung, who released the studio’s first game Dicealot last week. This farkle-based rogue-like game was independently developed over the last year and after joining up with Yogscast Games they’ve got it released to a great response. Play now on steam!
Last month we saw the release of The Orchestra's HATTRICK music video, directed by Joe Starrs, produced by Chloë Eia Hancock, shot by Chris Dias and graded by Syzmon Wrzkwsk': watch now.

If you want to keep in touch you can follow us on our two instagrams: @theglitch.co and @gloup.soup, and if you want to get really involved join our discord. There’s lots of stuff going on in there and you can expect high quality content, such as this:
PTA, Ari Aster and Yorgos Lanthimos all made their last films set in the bleak near future, completely independently of each other. What is it called when three auteur filmmakers all decide to present reality with a similar level of dystopian pessimism? (four letters, across)

Also, Ben is probably on a boat somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea, in case anyone is trying to reach him.
