Hi subscriber,

So Samhain has come and gone, leaving us alone with only spring’s most determined leaves littering the concrete with nowhere to return to, waiting patiently to be consumed by hungry street cleaners and banished to piles of festering plastic and the detritus of placated dissatisfaction. But here at unit 26, the darkening days only serve to make more profound the flickering flame of warmth we have within (though office heaters help).
Come hither weary traveller, sit down.
ARE WE FRIENDS?
Do you consider yourself a friend of the Glitch? Would you love to see our creative community thrive and grow amid the ruins of Hackney Wick’s creative empire? We hope that places like the glitch are what makes this hellscape a little more bearable. So we want to keep on going, making stuff, providing a space for experimentation and laughter. Pay us what you can monthly (be it a fiver or a pony) to keep the engines in motion and the lights turned on. With it you get:
- free entry to film screenings
- 20% off kit & shop
- a FREE gift in the post after a year
What’s the basis of every good friendship? That’s right, cold hard cash.
If you ever turned up to the glitch in need of help with something and we delivered and say, hypothetically, you felt the inner need to express that gratitude by buying us a beer - now is the time.
Well, frankly, we’re flattered. But let’s lay out some options. We have a range of kit for hire, hot desks available, setups for colour grading, live streaming or podcast recording, a little tool workshop, a variety of printing facilities, a studio space for testing cameras, lighting setups, hosting workshops, or small screenings. There is also a coffee machine.
Daily Pass - £25 p/day: access to all of the above for one day
Lab Member - £50 p/m: access to all of the above from 10 - 6pm on weekdays
24/7 + storage - £150 p/m: access to all of the above 24/7 and storage
Fixed Desk - £250 p/m: access to all of the above 24/7, storage and a desk dedicated just to you
So what say you?
gloup soup incubator
Great fun was had at the Volume VII screening of the Gloup Soup Incubator themed around Deja Vu. Films made by Ella Mons & Roops Housden, Gareth Rowntree, Charlie Smith, Ffion Kunz, Chris Dias, Sonum Sumaria and Joe Starrs all wove dreamy threads through repetitive video games, ethereal conversations, nightmarish childhoods and bin bag wearing matrix hackers. The films functioned as separate entities, but also spilled into each other with shared props, sounds and dialogue to create an eerie sense you’ve been here before.
You can watch it here.
The incubator was envisioned by Joe Starrs and aims for a no-strings-attached creativity, where lack of a budget and a super fast turnaround enable one to go beyond fear of failure and just make things. We start with a workshop to come up with the various ideas, and reconvene a couple of weeks later to screen the films. Since January (vol1) we’ve collectively made over 50 films with over 160 minutes of running time.

The next session is going to be held on Saturday, 6th December in our office in Hackney Wick. This volume’s theme is around the idea of time. Where are we going? Where have we been? Only you can tell. Come and join us!

“In a story that spans over five years, this film invites the viewer to breathe the same air as the camel-herders of Kutch, whose future is being suffocated by our rapidly changing world.”

*wanted*
We are looking for sound designers and producers
We are also looking someone with a rather large green thumb to both help us save our office plants and source/buy some more to spruce up our studio room

BLANKETS, 4 FORKS, 4 CANDLES AND INTERESTING TEAS
We’re running low on forks at the office. Do you want to bring one with you next time you’re coming in? And hey, while you’re there downsizing the clutter in your kitchen… do you have any obscure tea that has been taking up too much space in the cupboard above your kettle since your Auntie bought it with her when she came to stay in 2019?
We are also interested in cosy blankets as our cinema room is getting itself ready to survive another cold winter.

COLLABORATORS WHO WANT TO SELL THINGS
For the last few years the only item we’ve had listed on our online shop has been the prophetic “Traffic Cones of Japan” by Max Cameron. We kinda hoped that someone would see the potential and join us in our endeavors and sell things with us. The surprising thing is, even with the website not being actively promoted (and sometimes outright difficult to access), we’ve sold many copies of the book to many remote places (such as San Francisco, New York, Berlin, Warsaw). If you have things you’d like to sell - prints, zines, ceramics, stickers - get in touch!

TESTIMONIALS FROM PAST AND PRESENT LAB MEMBERS
Drop us a line telling us what it was like, the quirks, the coffee, the reliability of the Mild May line and how much fun we have here so future lab members know what they’re getting themselves into. You can just reply directly to this email.
thanks for reading!
If you want to keep in touch you can follow us on our two instagrams: @theglitch.co and @gloup.soup, and if you want to get really involved join our discord. There’s lots of stuff going on in there and you can expect high quality content, such as this:
Amber had a really good joke about the development from floppy disks to hard drives but it was deemed too crass for circulation in this esteemed publication.

We are in the process of conjuring up new forms of consciousness at the office, more on that in the new year (unless it takes over by then, haha).
